You haven’t stopped to consider are the implications of Matthew keeping things factual with the earthquake, he didn’t write ‘Jesus died and it rained blood! The desert froze until sundown!’ or any horseshit like that because his faith was strong enough to not require a foundation of lies. We can safely conclude that Matthew–the man who gave up his wealth and position as a Roman tax collector to follow Jesus–was a true believer who left behind an honest eyewitness testimony.
So what else did this true believer write about Jesus? Oh nothing much, just that Jesus healed the blind and resurrected a synagogue leader’s daughter by taking her hand and saying “Rise, little girl!”
Did Matthew lie about Jesus’ miracles? If so why not make his death look more dramatic? Maybe because he was an honest eyewitness.
