Piggott and TGO are back at it. Both of them are enduring the trauma of tourist season. And you are enduring the trauma of listening to The Greasy Pole.

It’s up for debate who is most traumatised.

What’s not up for debate is Theo’s status as a sigma. Oh shit, I mean Sigma. With a capital ‘S’ that is.

Counting shoes and nose hairs.

At this time TGO is enduring the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Meanwhile Adam is enduring people driving far too slow on the mountain roads.

Adam has grown a watermelon. This makes him locally famous. It doesn’t make him a nigger. He might end up on the front page of the local rag.

Then we get to the topic. Theo’s Socio Sexual Hierarchy (SSH) which he uses to publicly attack people and call them Gamma males. With a capital “G” that is.

Adam wrote a critique of the SSH.

I have two issues with the SSH as it is presented. I come from a background of leading men in stressful situations, the type of situations where lives are on the line if things go wrong. Professions such as whitewater rafting, firefighting, emergency team management. So I have seen a lot of different men in critical situations. I have seen how they act, I have seen what motivates them to succeed, I have seen them fail, and I have seen various types of leadership styles. I have often been the leader, but not always. I did that for around 30 years.

So in that context the SSH resonates with me, but it also doesn’t. Here’s what I believe: every man has each of the SSH sub-categories within him. But depending on the situation, his place in the male pecking order at the time, his life experience, and where he generally is in his life, based on these and I am sure other contributing factors will depend on which SSH behaviour pattern will emerge in any given moment.

The SSH has a term for this which is ‘situational’. Such as a situational alpha, which means that the guy in question is not an alpha but in a particular situation he will be the alpha. Well, that is what I’m talking about. Every man has each of these categories within him, and what comes out depends on the moment.

Now, it is also true that the average man will have one of the sub-groups which tends to dominate his behaviour in a general sense. So if the majority of his behaviour patterns are that of a delta then it would be safe to say that he is a delta. I get that. But this then feeds into my main problem with the SSH as it is presented.

Vox Day is of the very strong opinion that a man is chained to his group and that no change is possible. The only possible change is that a man will learn to overcome and control the instinctive behaviour patterns that define his identified group. Or in other words, once a gamma then always a gamma.

Much like a woman (by “much” I mean “just like”) Theo engages in name calling and projection.

It’s a classification of men based on women’s opinions of men.

On one hand – why should men care about women’s opinions of them? Women’s opinions change with their emotions.

On the other hand – Theo does specifically call it a Socio-Sexual Hierarchy. Thus sex, which involves women, is a critical part of it. Maybe this makes sense in the context.

Then Adam points out that a man’s place on the SSH would be determined by women. Not by men. Certainly not by Theo.

In fact Theo says this:

Now, it is important to keep in mind that it serves absolutely no purpose to identify yourself in some manner that you think is “better” or higher up the hierarchy. No one cares what you think you are and your opinion about your place in the social hierarchy is probably the opinion that matters least. There is no good or bad here, there is only what happens to be observable in social interaction. Consider: Alphas seemingly rule the roost and yet they live in a world of constant conflict and status testing. Sigmas usually acquired their outsider status the hard way; one seldom becomes immune to the social hierarchy by virtue of mass popularity in one’s childhood. Bravos… okay, bravos actually have it pretty good. But the important thing to keep in mind is that you can’t improve your chances of success in the social game if you begin by attempting to deceive yourself as to where you stand vis-a-vis everyone else around you.

Theo brings everything back to himself as soon as possible. Just like a woman. Every post on his Fagstack is about him. Ya know how women do “the meme” every time they take a photo of an object. Theo is doing that with every post on his Fagstack.

Theo has only known two other Sigmas.

Could you roughly delineate what % of people fall into each of the SSH categories?

5 percent Alpha
13 percent Bravo
45 percent Delta
27 percent Gamma
10 percent Omega

Sigma is a rounding error. I have personally known a grand total of two other definite Sigmas.

Theo the self-identified Sigma also goes on to say:

No one, literally no one, cares what you believe yourself to be. No one here is going to take anything you say about yourself at face value, no one believes you, and there is absolutely no value to anyone, including yourself, in your own self-identification.

You’re not a Sigma. If you think you’re a Sigma, you’re probably a Gamma. If you’re sending a wall of text telling everyone how excited you are to finally know what you are, you’re DEFINITELY a Gamma. Sigma is not introversion. Sigma is not the head cheerleader in high school remembering your name that one time. Sigma is everyone thinking you’re an Alpha, dating a Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader, and getting into a fight with a member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers over a stripper in a Los Angeles night club.

The prime utility of the SSH is about identifying other men and anticipating their behavior. This will significantly help you in the workplace, in social settings, in your career, and in your personal life. Some individuals have even claimed that their judicious use of the SSH in their professional lives has helped them complete projects successfully, avoid significant landmines, and increase their income. So, for the love of all that is Good and Beautiful and True, stop talking about yourself and your self-perceptions and focus on the important information.

The real Sigma doesn’t announce that he’s a lone wolf; he simply operates outside the hierarchy without commentary. He doesn’t tell you women desperately want him; he either doesn’t notice or doesn’t care. He doesn’t launch a podcast to “speak his truth” to an audience of bros, because the Sigma’s defining characteristic is indifference to social validation, not the relentless pursuit of it through a different channel.

Theo can’t endure any critique or criticism or dissent. Like (to beat the dead horse) a woman.

The Conclusions of Epigentics

What I am saying in more basic language is in essence: the man you meet at forty is largely the settings that got installed in him as a child.

Not the genes he inherited or a type he instantiates (the mechanisms of which would in any case be absolutely mysterious). So he is a Gamma or a Sigma or whatever, mostly by the configuration his early environment wrote into him.

The rat experiment

Some mother rats lick and groom their pups a lot. Some don’t. The pups of the attentive mothers grow into calm adults — low stress hormones, quick recovery, confident exploration. The pups of the inattentive mothers grow into jumpy, reactive adults. This lasts their whole lives.

The obvious objection is that anxious mothers pass on anxious genes. So the experiment: swap the pups at birth. Give the biological pups of a neglectful mother to an attentive one.

They grow up calm. Swap the other way, they grow up jumpy. The genes went one way, the temperament went the other. The mothering did it, not the inheritance.

Then the mechanism. In the calm rats, a particular gene involved in shutting down the stress response is switched more fully on — chemically tagged differently in the brain. And this isn’t just correlation: give a drug that alters those chemical tags and the behaviour changes with them. You can push the phenotype in either direction. So the causal chain is visible end to end — mothering, chemical marking, gene activity, adult behaviour.
